Heidi Jane

Heidi-Jane lives in San Francisco where she has been an independent musician for over twenty years. The violin being her principle instrument, her trademark sound is founded on the idea of “a whole sea of violins” as she puts it, that is, she writes music driven not solely by the typical electric guitar foundation of much rock music or the solo acoustic approach of many folk bands, but by lots and lots of violins, all playing away at once. And those violins – sometimes as many as twenty or thirty tracks of them in a given song – are all Heidi-Jane.

After arriving in San Francisco, she quickly became known locally for her unique hybrid of fiddle-playing which infused lilting Irish accents with African and Latin Rhythms and the rich, warm tone quality of her classical training. Her first (and now out-of-print) recording was her debut CD, The Cart Before The Horse!, a series of uniquely-arranged folk tunes done in ‘sea of violins’ fashion, which garnered national attention and was featured on National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition”.

She followed with A Thousand Reasons Why, her highly praised debut as a vocalist and writer of folk-pop music.
